Befuddlement factor: 1
After a long day flipping ppts in the financial district or jostling through Chicago Bean crowds, proximity and elegance are strong draws to the bar at the Palmer House.
Clearly the old world elegance of the bar is the major draw, although surprisingly, or perhaps not, the people watching isn’t particularly interesting. Tourists and event guests – no beautiful people!
Service is adequate; not particularly fast or personal. Unlike the room, the presentation of your drink will not be elegant; basic glass with the most basic of garnishes. Mismatch! However given the ambiance, typical hotel pricing, and solid execution by the bartender, the $13.50 price is attractive.
